Woman asks court to cripple driver who paralysed her

A Saudi woman has asked court in the Gulf kingdom to inflict paralysis on a local man who crippled her while driving fast on a “tooth for tooth” basis.

The woman said she had rejected an offer of SRsix million (Dh5.9 million) from the driver to drop the court case and insisted on the punishment.

The woman, in her 20s, told court in the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah that she was in the second week of her honeymoon when she was knocked over by the car.

“The court adjourned hearings to allow all concerned parties to reach an out of court settlement and persuade the woman to drop her demand for crippling the defendant,” the Saudi Arabic language daily Okaz said.

The paper quoted police as saying that the driver was fully responsible for the accident and that he had a police record in driving fast under the influence of alcohol.
