You-Tube film leads police to shop robbers

Saudi police has arrested three local men who were caught on camera robbing a grocery in the kingdom after beating up its Asian owner.

Police said the three are Saudis aged 19, 20 and 23 years and that they confessed to carrying out the robbery in Jeddah.

“The three are jobless and they confessed to stealing around Saudi riyals1,500 from the shop," Jeddah police spokesman Lt Mawaf Al Bouk said, quoted by local newspapers.

He said police were helped by the film published on You-Tube showing the three attacking the shop keeper and stealing his money before fleeing the place, adding that police acted on their own as the grocer had not reported the incident.

The film, published in Saudi newspapers last week, showed the three going around the shop before jumping over the counter and grabbing the grocer by the neck.

One of them kept squeezing the man’s neck while the others robbed him. Newspapers had earlier reported the robbery took place in Riyadh.
