A criminal jumps out of a court window

Yesterday, in a French border area with Germany, a man convicted of murder who fled Thursday from a German court by jumping out of one of its windows was arrested, according to German police.

Regensburg (South) police indicated, in a statement, that "the police in France arrested the fugitive man, Rashid Chawakry, in the border area with Germany."

The news of the escape of Chawakry, who is of Algerian nationality and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2011, from a hall in the basement of a Regensburg court in Bavaria, made headlines.

The 40-year-old man was convicted of murder and robbery.

After his escape, the police launched a massive search operation, appealing to residents to help find the criminal, but advised them not to approach him because he was considered a violent man.

An international arrest warrant was issued against him on Friday.
