Published

A teenager in Nigeria was allegedly sold for two bags of rice worth about $120.

The incident came to light when a man approached a shop owner and asked for two bags of rice.

When he was told the price, he said that he doesn’t have the money, but agreed to leave the boy as collateral until he is able to pay for the rice.

However, the man never returned. Later, a local pastor saw the 15-year-old crying. The boy told the pastor that he was kidnapped and sold for two bags of rice.

The pastor decided to help the child and began negotiating his release. The shop owner agreed to forgo payment on one bag of rice and a church employee agreed to pay for the second bag of rice.

A police spokesperson said that police were not notified about the incident and no charges were filed.
