Man killed friend and ate part of his brain

An Ohio man who killed his roommate in 1978 and ate part of his brain has been denied parole a fifth time.

The Ohio Parole Board held a private release consideration hearing for 60-year-old inmate David Allen Chapin on Feb. 1.

The Central Office Board Review took over the case when the panel couldn't reach a majority decision. They found Chapin "unsuitable for release," according to JoEllen Smith of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

He would next be considered for parole in December 2018, the Cincinnati Enquirer (https://cin.ci/1TFubZx) reported Wednesday.

Chapin is serving life at a prison in Lima (LY'-muh) for shooting his longtime friend Donald Liming in the eye during a dispute over religion. The then-23-year-olds shared an apartment in Milford, in southwest Ohio.

Chapin told a court-ordered psychiatrist that he ate Liming's brain as part of a 'mutual agreement' between the friends.

Liming's family maintains that Chapin should stay incarcerated. Clermont County Prosecutor Vincent Faris said his office strongly supports that position.

"He is not the type of person that we feel should ever be released again," Faris said.
