A Vancouver, Washington, man accused of setting his mother's house on fire when she refused to buy him cigarettes has been ordered held on $75,000 bail.

The Columbian reports the fire burned a 4-by-4-foot section of carpet and a towel inside a bedroom.

Richard K. Cameron appeared Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court after his arrest for investigation of first-degree arson domestic violence, reckless endangerment domestic violence and third-degree malicious mischief.

The newspaper says that during the hearing Cameron cursed and refused to sign a court order prohibiting him from having contact with his mother.

Court documents allege he set the fire when his mother refused his demand that she go to a store and buy him a pack of cigarettes. The 47-year-old man lives with his mother.

Judge Gregory Gonzales appointed a lawyer for Cameron, whose next court appearance is Oct. 29.
