Man unable to pay bride price, commits suicide

Abubakar Ahmed was supposed to pay $250 as bride price for his wedding that was scheduled to take place last week.

But 24-year-old Abubakar Ahmed was found hanging from a tree on Saturday morning.

According to Nigerian police, he hanged himself because he was unable to pay for the bride he had chosen.

A source close to Ahmed told Kebbi State Police that Ahmed committed suicide after being unable to marry his bride.

His wedding had to be postponed until he could find the money to pay for his bride and hence Ahmed was very depressed.

Police launched an investigation into the incident and initial reports suggest that Ahmed tried to recover a debt in order to pay the bride price, and after he was unable to collect his debt, he decided to end his life.

Ahmed owned and worked on several farms.
