Dubai cycling races: Major roads to be closed until Saturday

The police has drawn up a plan to regulate traffic during ‘Dubai Tour’ cycling championship which win run from Wednesday February 5 to Saturday February 8, according to Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Adjutant General of Dubai Police for Operations,

At a press conference, Al Zaffin predicted some traffic congestion during the championships but pointed to alternate routes for motorists.

160 top cycling champions from 14 international teams will participate in the race which is being held for the first time in the Middle East.
On the first day on Wednesday, the race kicks off at 1pm at the Start Village and will cover a distance of 10 km from Dubai World Trade Centre to DIFC, then to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, and return to starting place at DWTC.

On the second day on Thursday, the race kicks off at 11.20 am at the Start Village and will cover  a distance of 122 km from Dubai World Trade Centre and pass through Zabeel Road, Al Meydan Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street, Umm Suqeim Road, Al Sufouh Road, and Emirates Hills  and end at Atlantis The Palm  Jumeirah.

On the third day on Friday, the race kicks off at 10:30 am at the Start Villag and will cover a distance of 162 km from DWTC through Airport Road, Al Khawaneej Road, Emirates Road and end in Hatta.

On the fourth day on Saturday, the cycling race starts at 11.30am and will cover 123km from DWTC through Sheikh Zayed Road, Baniyas Road, Al Seef Road, Al Ras, Al Shindagha Road, Al Dewan Road, Jumeirah Road, Al Orouba Road and end at Burj Plaza.

Major General Zaffin advised drivers to avoid the traffic in the streets used for the race and use alternate routes.
