Dubai warns against slimming tablets use

Dubai Municipality has warned residents against buying health supplements without proper health and medical supervision.

Many illegal sales-persons target unsuspecting residents with exaggerated promises like ‘100% herbal’ and ‘quick weight loss’.

According to the civic body, medicines like Paiyoji Plus, Natural Max, Japan Rapid weight Loss, Super Slim and Celerite Slimming Capsules should not be consumed as it contains banned chemicals like Sibutramine and Phenolphthalein.

These medicines also cause side-effects like high blood pressure and  irregular heartbeats, detailed the consumer product safety section at public health and safety department.

The department has carried out 2,173 inspections, including 244 in Free Zone.

Despite holding regular inspections to ensure only approved health products find its way to the shelves, civic officials observed that banned products continue to make its way to the market.

The department has urged residents to calling 800900 to report online cheaters and telemarketers.
