10 UAE banks among world's top 500 brands

Ten UAE banks have been ranked among the world's top 500 financial institutional brands, according to The Banker's Top 500 Banking Brands listing.

Emirates NBD topped the list of local as well as regional banking brands, ranked 142nd globally with $943 million (Dh3.46 billion) brand value and market capitalisation of $6.734bn.

National Bank of Abu Dhabi saw its ranking improving substantially in 2009 to 156th from 199th place in the previous year. The bank brand value also went up from $364m in 2008 to $835m in 2009. It had a market capitalisation of $8.228bn.

First Gulf Bank saw increase in its ranking and brand value last year. Ranked 217th globally and third in the UAE, its brand value rose to $517m in 2009 from $202m in the previous year. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank ranked 248 in 2009 with brand value of $394m and market cap of $2.75bn. The bank's brand value was $324m.
