Mubadala Development Company has awarded Aldar Properties with the funding and development of the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi on Al Sowa Island.

Site enabling activity has already commenced for this modern medical facility, which will offer UAE residents and the region high-end healthcare and cutting edge technology.

Scheduled to be operational in 2011, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will include a multi-speciality tertiary care centre and adjacent clinic. An integrated clinic-hospital design will offer local and international patients an environment that combines excellent physical amenities with world-class medical care.

Mubadala, the project owner, is an investment company that is helping to diversify Abu Dhabi’s economy through capital intensive investments and by building new businesses.

“Today, Cleveland Clinic is one of the largest and most respected hospitals in America and we are very pleased to have been selected to design and develop this large scale healthcare facility in Abu Dhabi for Mubadala and Cleveland Clinic. Aldar’s in-depth management expertise offers a wealth of experience across the entire property sector. We are proud to bring this level of quality to Mubadala’s visionary project,” said Ronald S Barrott, CEO at Aldar Properties.

“CCAD is one of a number of initiatives in Mubadala Healthcare’s creation of a robust private healthcare infrastructure for Abu Dhabi,” said Mark Erhart, executive director of Mubadala Healthcare. “The hospital is a vital part of our planned integrated healthcare delivery network that includes general and multi-speciality hospitals, centres of excellence, clinical support services and primary care/general practitioner clinics. Aldar will deliver a high-quality development, which is essential for us to provide outstanding patient experiences.”

Local and international patients will be cared for in an environment combing “seven star” amenities and service standards with the highest quality patient care and superior clinical outcomes. The new hospital is being designed to take advantage of the latest technologies in surgery, imaging, telemedicine and electronic medical records.

The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is located on Al Sowa Island adjacent to Al Reem Island. The hospital will include a 360-bed inpatient hospital and a 324-room clinic with a total built up area up to 500,000 square metres and will have more than 3,000 car parking spaces.

Aldar Properties has more than $65 billion (Dh238.74bn) worth of developments and the largest land bank in Abu Dhabi. The current property portfolio includes major developments and re-developments within the Abu Dhabi Emirate such as Central Market, Al Raha Beach, Coconut Island, Noor Al Ain, Al Gurm Resort, Al Mamoura – the Mubadala and Environment Agency Abu Dhabi Headquarter Building – as well as the Yas Island project that includes a Warner Bros and a Ferrari theme park.
