Abu Dhabi International Airport posted a 11.2 per cent increase in its January 2010 passenger traffic against the same period last year.

The airport's aircraft movements, meanwhile, were up by 13.3 per cent and cargo increased by 25.6 per cent compared to January 2009, Abu Dhabi Airports Company, or Adac, said yesterday in a statement.

The passenger traffic at the airport continues to increase on account of conferences and exhibitions in Abu Dhabi, Adac said, adding that the rise in passenger numbers was also a result of expanding network and frequencies of Etihad Airways and new airlines that started operations from Abu Dhabi airport in 2009.

The rise in the cargo traffic at Abu Dhabi airport, meanwhile, was attributed to aid sent to Haiti, Adac said.
