Dubai Maritime City, the world's first purpose-built maritime centre and member of the Dubai World Group, recently announced that registration and licensing of all maritime businesses in Dubai will be handled by the Dubai Maritime City Authority as part of its initiative to provide a centralised point of access for all maritime-related activities in the emirate.

It was previously handled by the Department of Economic Development.

Under the new set up, Dubai Maritime City Authority will facilitate various maritime-related transactions, including trade name, issuance of license, renewal of license, amendment of license and cancellation of license.

To ensure a smooth transition, Dubai Maritime City Authority said it has informed all departments about the new structure and the specific responsibilities now being handled by the authority.

The move is also in accordance with the Dubai Maritime City Law No. (11) of 2007 that was passed into law by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
