Dubai transport first in Mena on Google Maps

Dubai has become the first city in the Middle East and North Africa to have its public transport network featured on the Google's mapping system.

This enables public bus users to plan their daily travels in advance. The technology is easy to use and accessible to all internet users 24 hours a day. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Google signed an agreement in this regard.

"The uploading of transport information to Google Maps is intended to enhance the Wojhati journey planning initiative launched by the RTA's Public Transport Agency earlier this year," said Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of the authority's Corporate Technical Support Services Sector.

"The new initiative will enable a large number of potential users across the globe to gain access to information about the transport network in Dubai.

"This aims at assisting public transport users in Dubai to establish the optimum transport method and lists the available public bus routes options depending on the starting point, destinations and travel times."

He said the service would enable residents and visitors to check bus schedules and routes.

Wael Ghonim, Google's Regional Product and Marketing Manager, said: "Uploading Dubai's transport network is the first initiative of its kind in Mena."
