Metro Red Line to be completed in April

Dubai Metro Red Line will be completed and seven stations will be operated in April this year. Whereas, the Green Line is scheduled for completion in August 2011, said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority yesterday.

"The Contractor for Dubai Metro Project, Dubai Rail Link (DURL) Consortium, is set to complete the remaining works of the stations on the Red Line [18 stations] on April 25, 2010. And all works of stations on the Green Line will be completed in August 2011," he said.

Al Tayer said the criteria for selection of the stations to be operated in April included: "Availability of population density in the locality served by each station so as to provide convenient services to the inhabitants in the neighbourhood; availability of commercial activities in the area served by each station; availability of government activities in the vicinity of each station; the station's integration with other transport modes such as buses and water transport; and the projected number of commuters at each station."
