The Licensing Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will start a new e-service for early registration of applications for special number plates this month, it said yesterday.

The e-service will also cater to customers' desired category, particularly the new category "J".

Mohammed Abdul Kareem N'emat, Director of Vehicle Licensing Department at the RTA's Licensing Agency, said early registration of applications for distinguished number plates was one of the e-services the agency always wanted to provide to its customers.

The aim is to provide customers with services that help them process their transactions in the shortest possible time and with the least effort, he said.

N'emat said: "Early applications for these number plates would have to be submitted through the website and after the end of the submission period, the system would sort out all the applications.

"If there is only one application, the plate would be sold at its nominal value in addition to fees."

"In case there are between two and five submissions, the system will place the number plate for an auction where no one other than the early applicants would be allowed to bid."

Applicants would be notified by an e-mail and text message about the auction and the bids.

In case there are more than five applicants, the system will add the plate in the e-auction and the Licensing Agency will hold an e-auction in which everybody would be allowed to take part, he said.

If an application is received after the date, then there would be no auction.
