Norwegian firm charters six Saudi Arabian vessels

Norwegian shipping company Odfjell SE has said it has agreed to charter six vessels from its Saudi Arabian partner National Chemical Carriers (NCC).

The agreement covers a 10-year bare-boat charter of the 37,000 dwt (deadweight) stainless steel parcel tankers NCC Jubail, NCC Mekka and NCC Riyad, and a six-year charter for the 23,000-24,728 dwt vessels NCC Baha, NCC Asir and NCC Arar.

No financial details were disclosed. Odfjell, headquartered in Bergen, Norway, is a leading provider of bulk liquids transport and logistics services, with a fleet of some 115 parcel tankers and tank terminal operations in Europe, the US and Asia. The company reported a turnover of over $1 billion (Dh3.6bn) in 2007, according to TradeArabia News Service.

Meanwhile, Qatar Petrochemical Company, a subsidiary of Industries Qatar, has also signed a contract of Affreightment with the gas shipping Norwegian company Norgas Carrier for shipping Ethylene.

Norgas is a part of the IM Skaugen SE group, which is engaged in the transportation of petrochemical gases and LPG, marine transfer of crude oil and LNG, as well as the design and construction of smaller and specialised high quality marine vessels.
