The industrial zones of Jebel Ali and Al Aweer will be the focus of services and commercial transport activities of the Licensing Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) during 2010.

Furat Ali Al Amri, Acting Director of Commercial Transport Activities Department at RTA Licensing Agency, said: "We have targeted Jebel Ali and Al Aweer areas as these commercial zones border other emirates and host many enterprises. By reaching these companies, we can promote many services and make it easy for customers to get to RTA offices all over Dubai."

Elaborating on the agency's expansion plans for the year, Al Amri said, "The department has enhanced commercial registration and licensing services by setting up the Al Barsha Centre.

"Front-end employees have been deployed to deliver services to customers after undergoing training on the commercial licensing system.

"We are now in the process of offering a similar service at the Al Aweer Centre and will later expand this to all service centres and sub-centres of the Customer Service Centres Department," Al Amri added.

He said RTA's plans for the year will see expansion of the scope and reach of its commercial transport activity services to all areas of Dubai by targeting commercial establishments.

"The department will take its commercial transport activities and commercial registration and licensing services to businesses and corporate customers, thus saving time and effort," he added.

"This will be based on a study we have conducted on important commercial activities and companies. Accordingly, we have decided to offer our services at centres close to these companies, making it easier for them to access our services," he said.

"Through decentralisation of services, we will lessen the pressure on Deira Centre. As per the plan we will heed companies' feedback and attend to their needs so as to enrich and promote the economy," added Al Amri.

He pointed out that services relating to the Commercial Transport Activities Department were earlier provided by a single staff member at the Deira Traffic, RTA Main Customer Service Centre and the Department of Economic Development.

"But now we are working towards extending this activity to all RTA branches in order to improve customers' accessibility to commercial licensing services. We will also increase the number of counter employees to provide miscellaneous services without centralising the service at a single location, he added.
