A Russian cargo plane has reportedly made an emergency landing at Sharjah International Airport – four days after a Sharjah plane crash killed all six crew aboard.
The Russian plane made an emergency landing around 7.30pm on Sunday after a fire in one of its engines, reported Arabian Business.
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is believed to have launched an investigation into the incident.
In Wednesday’s accident, a Sudanese cargo plane, which took off from Sharjah Airport for Khartoom, crashed just 20 seconds into its flight after the airframe around the engine fell on the runway during the initial part of its climb.
The plane exploded in a fireball 1.2km from the end of the runway.
A preliminary report by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) into the Sudanese B707 cargo aircraft accident cleared Sharjah International Airport infrastructure and operations.
“Preliminary investigations did not indicate any concerns with Sharjah International Airport infrastructure and operations that could contribute towards the accident,'' said a GCAA statement.
