Oman has shortlisted six firms including global construction company Bechtel, France's Vinci and India's Larsen and Toubro for a deal to build a $1.4 billion (Dh5.1bn) airport terminal, a tender board official said.

Saudi Binladen Group, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company and Joannou and Paraskevaides from Cyprus, were also prequalified, the official said, adding that last day of bidding would be April 9.

"We have been qualified for the terminal building project and we are now in the process of bidding for the job," said Zahi Saba, project manager at CCC. Passenger traffic through Muscat airport increased to about 3.2 million in 2008.
