US-based global express and freight service provider UPS has released new list rates for 2009, which include an average hike of 5.9 per cent for UPS ground packages and an average net increase of 4.9 per cent on air express and US-origin global shipments.
UPS said the rate increase for air express and international shipments was based on a 6.9 per cent increase in the base rate, less than a two-per cent reduction in the air and international fuel surcharge index. The new rates would take effect on January 5, 2009, it stated.
UPS said updated rate and service information would be posted on ups.com/rates beginning October 24. On December 18, customers could download the 2009 rate and service guide on the site.
Meanwhile, Ceva Logistics has announced it had been awarded a contract to manage procurement, inventory, warehousing and materials distribution for United Utilities PLC.
The latter is said to be the largest operator of water and wastewater networks in the UK, supplying electricity, water and wastewater services to customers in north-west England.
A team would handle the full range of craftsmen's requirements.
