Work on the project will take more than two years. (SUPPLIED)
Abu Dhabi Municipality will partially close Salam Street, one of the capital's busiest, to pave the way for the development of the street and the Eastern Ring Road at a cost of Dh5 billion. Work on the project will take more than two years.
The street will be partially closed to traffic over the coming days, from Salam Street-Street No9 intersection until Mina Street intersection.
Salam will be upgraded to an urban expressway. The project is being developed through the awarding of four contracts to create an urban expressway with a network of roads and tunnels that will eventually lead to a smooth free flow facility with a capacity of some 6,000 vehicles per hour. Upon completion, motorists will be able to travel through Salam Street with no traffic signals from Sheikh Zayed Bridge to the Mina Zayed area.
The municipality asked drivers coming from the Eastern Ring Road towards the Mina area to use the right lane before reaching the intersection linking Salam Street and the Eastern Ring Road to Al Falah Street to get to Abu Dhabi Mall and the Tourist Club area.
