Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, one of UK's largest mechanical and electrical building services businesses, has been awarded a £3.2 million (Dh18.4m) contract by Barr Construction, working for Fife Council. The deal covers supply and installation of mechanical and electrical services for the refurbishment of Carnegie Leisure Centre in Dunfermline.

Work will also include the refurbishment of three existing swimming pools and the upgradation of the existing sports and changing facilities. Mechanical and electrical services will be provided for a new café and multi-purpose studios, too. The project will use the latest solar panel technology to provide heating for training pools. Innovations adopted on the project include the use of prefabricated skids so that major items of plant are piped-up and fitted off-site.

The contract is scheduled for completion in autumn of 2010.
