George Philip, Head of Project Management Team, Dorma Gulf, got a call from Turner International, requesting for technical help from Dorma and the opportunity to be a part of the team in the design of what was supposed to be the 'Tallest Tower in the World'.
What followed was a motion of events, with clock work precision, which got Dorma involved from "design to delivery".
Along with Mari Ciastko, from Dorma Project Management Team, US, George Philip worked closely with Skidmore Owings and Merrill, the architects for Burj Dubai, to offer expertise in every opening in the Tower.
In Door Controls, the hardware had to conform to the stringent ANSI standards, along with NFPA and ADA codes. Dorma met the challenge of SOM to provide unique solutions with custom designed handles called 'Bendo' and locks which had more than 12 electronic functions to cater to all the possible security requirements.
More than 2,000 types of hardware were supplied, covering almost 12,000 doors in the project.
