The Dow Chemical Company has been awarded an order to supply its water nanofiltration (NF) technology by the Ministry of Water and Electricity in Saudi Arabia for the Ha'il Nanofiltration Plant.
This plant, expected to come online in the second half of 2010, will be the first nanofiltration plant in the kingdom, and the largest in the Middle East.
Dow's technology will filter radioactive agents in the naturally occurring fresh water wells underground in Ha'il at a rate of 150,000 m3/day – enough to meet the daily clean water needs of 500,000 to 750,000 residents.
In 2008, Dow and the Ministry of Water and Electricity installed the first NF plant with a capacity of 25,000 m3/day and it is expected to be fully online by the end of 2009.
Dow has been present in the kingdom for more than 30 years.
