Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), the Abu Dhabi master developer, has completed the renovation of the first phase of Al Bateen Wharf's Fishermen's Marina, situated in Abu Dhabi's oldest occupied area.

The first phase featured the completion of the marina's mooring berths that will accommodate 323 fishing vessels, varying in length from 10 to 18 metres. Each berth is equipped with running water, electrical power, fire fighting equipment and standard amenities.

The design of the first phase took into consideration the preservation of the fishing heritage of the Fishermen's Marina through revitalising its building design and adopting environment-friendly regulations, said TDIC.

A 192-metre long underground culvert has been built to connect the water bodies of the east and west bays to improve the circulation and quality of water in the marina.

By the second quarter of 2012, the project will see the completion of its second phase. The entire redevelopment of the Al Bateen Wharf will also include the luxury five-star Al Bateen Wharf Hotel complex.
