UAE telecommunications company, du’s total revenue as of end-2007 grew by a whopping 254 per cent to Dh1.5 billion since it began offering mobile services in February of the same year.

The Dubai-based mobile network provider said on Thursday that its sales revenue for the fourth quarter of 2007 touched Dh639.7 million, up 55 per cent from Dh412.2-million income registered in the third quarter. The company also registered a 388 per cent hike from Dh131.2 million gains posted in the final quarter of 2006.

According to company statistics, du's mobile customer base exceeded 1.5 million as of end-December 2007, only 10 months after it fully launched its telecommunications services. This suggests an acquisition of about 30 per cent of the population of the UAE.

A steady growth has also been noticed in its landline, international and wholesale and broadcasting segments, although actual figures were not disclosed.

“We believe the confidence placed in du by all our stakeholders was the key driver behind achieving this significant revenue growth,” said Ahmed Bin Byat, Chairman of du.

Aside from increasing its mobile customer base, du’s pre-paid WOW card and the special edition Dh1 mobile line ‘million’ pack launched to mark the one million subscriber milestone have contributed to the company’s significant revenue growth in the fourth quarter.
