A first of its kind forum in the Middle East will host business and management legend Jack Welch in Dubai.

The Winning Strategies Forum is being organised by the Human Investment Corp and Rikaz Consultancy & Training at Jumeirah Beach Hotel from April 20 to 22.

Welch, a former chief executive officer of General Electric, ran the company for two decades. He will present his experiences in management and development and will highlight the most effective strategies for success.

Welch’s groundbreaking strategies on business leadership are global benchmarks for maximised productivity and labour efficiency.

During his 20-year tenure as head of GE, Welch, who was named CEO of the century by Fortune magazine, increased the giant American company’s market value to more than $400 billion (Dh1.47 trillion).

Dr Ammar Al Hussaini, chairman of organising committee of the forum and general manager of Human Investment Corp, said: “The Winning Strategies Forum with Jack Welch is one of most important events for the business community as it will take place for the first time in the region.

Welch will present the essence of his management techniques, the most powerful management tools and the keys to succeed he had adopted during his career.

“Welch’s visit to Dubai is an event in itself,” Al Hussaini said. “Business leaders here will have a unique opportunity to benefit from a tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge passed on by a world renowned business leader.

“As Dubai is a fast growing business centre, the business community in the emirate needs management experts of this calibre who are able to set effective plans and strategies for sustainable business growth.

“We thank the sponsoring companies for their support of this significant event, with special thanks to Kuwait Finance House, the official sponsor, CNBC Arabia, the exclusive television media partner, Al Bayan newspaper, Emirates Business newspaper and ArabianBusiness.com,” he said.

Welch will present the essence and the other ingredients of his own recipe for success as well as different effective strategies in business management. He will highlight methods to avoid losses, the best ways of corporate communication and tips to get products and services from the markets.

Welch was born on November 19, 1935, in Salem, Massachusetts, in the United States. He studied at the University of Massachusetts and received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1957.

His steadfast rise to the top of the GE ranks was thanks to his aggressive marketing of the company’s products and services.

He became GE’s youngest and eighth chairman and CEO in 1981. During his 20-year tenure as CEO, Welch was credited with changing the corporation around, and inflating the company’s market value from $12bn in 1981 to $400bn in 2001.

Welch’s success as CEO was due to his tremendous leadership skills. He knew how to communicate key ideas to staff, not only by delivering messages, but persistently repeating them over and over, and ultimately driving the messages home.

Welch’s concept of change was aggressive but clearly outlined what needed to change and he strongly disliked red tape and bureaucracy in a company.
