What?

It's the Middle East's gas equivalent to Davos. Experts and executives will descend on the capital to discuss the state of the gas industry, as the need to meet future energy demands continues to dominate government's priorities.

When and Where?

Between February 10 and 12 at Le Royal Meridien Hotel in Abu Dhabi. People wanting to participate should visit the organiser's website, www.theenergyexchange.co.uk.

Why is it important?

Gas pricing and market situations are growing in importance due to the escalating costs of oil and the increased costs and complexities of sourcing and extracting gas. With forthcoming regional gas project developments continuing to hit the headlines, Abu Dhabi is looking to provide a natural home for Gas Arabia 2009 and future years.

What do delegates get from it?

The chance to get an up-to-date picture of gas activities in the Middle East. Executive speaker panels will cover the entire value chain from upstream gas exploration and production, transportation and distribution challenges, through to downstream gas processing and associated technologies.

What hot topics will be discussed?

Sour gas – called as such because of its high sulphur content and corrosive properties – is more costly to develop and challenging to process as it requires special handling and infrastructure.

As the global demand for gas continues to rise, sour gas has emerged as an option for the Middle East to satisfy that demand. While the gas provides a lucrative opportunity, it also creates significant and complicated challenges.

The 2009 Sour Gas Workshop will provide the opportunity for participants to combine a commercial and technical understanding of sour gas treatment and processing best practices. In addition, we will address some of the key issues arising from sour gas development such as best practices for CO2 emissions in addition to how the sulphur market is evolving.

What can participants expect?

Through formal sessions, interactive question and answer sessions, and roundtable discussions, the 2009 Sour Gas Workshop offers the perfect platform for in-depth information exchange with senior industry executives as well as technical experts.

High on the agenda are real-life case studies as well as the latest project developments taking place in the region.

Gas Arabia 2009 is being held alongside Sour Gas Middle East 2009, taking place on the February 10, also in Abu Dhabi.
