Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) will increase its production capacity of electricity to reach 7287MW, by the year-end.
However, Saeed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa said that the authority currently has 6676MW of electricity, while the peak load was equal to 5287MW as registered in 2008 with a surplus margin equal to 1389MW and a reserve margin exceeding 26 per cent of electricity required during the peak demand.
Dewa had allocated Dh72.5 billion, out of which Dh15.5bn is allocated to the projects that had come into service in the past two years and Dh57bn to new projects under execution, he said.
With regard to the water sector, Al Tayer stated the production capacity of Dewa was 278 MIGD by the end of 2008, while the highest demand was 264 MIGD.
