MEI to instal solar project in 48 buildings

Millennium Energy Industries (MEI) of Jordan is to design, supply and instal central solar hot water systems in 48 buildings at the capital's Modern Residential City project.

The systems will supply 1.3 million litres per day of domestic hot water for the city's projected 25,000 residents. The solar project will be the largest of its kind in the region and will complement Abu Dhabi's existing environmental initiatives such as Masdar.

It will produce savings of more than $3 million (Dh11m) in capital costs as well as cutting running costs during the winter by more than 90 per cent.

"With the right regional engineering expertise, advanced solar heating technology is currently commercially viable due to its efficiency and reliability," said MEI Chairman Ennis Rimawi. "The solution MEI will instal at Modern Residential City has great potential for significant cost savings over a conventional system, plus all the benefits of being green."

Having successfully completed other major projects, including Rotana International hotels, Movenpick hotels and Jordache Jeans factories, MEI is well placed to carry out the UAE's largest solar hot water project for Modern Residential City."

Construction work on the development at Al Musafah is scheduled to start this year.
