Oman issues bids for steam and power plant

State-run Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has issued three tenders for the construction of steam production facilities and a power plant in the south of the country, its website said yesterday.

PDO is Oman's largest oil producer and an affiliate of Royal Dutch Shell.

It pumped 633,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Oman's crude and condensate output of 757,000 bpd in 2008.

The first contract on offer was for the construction of processing facilities for feed water, steam, oil and gas along with their associated utilities.

The second includes the installation of aquifer pumps and pipelines, the website said. The work of both contracts will be at the Amal crude oilfield for its steam production facilities. Companies interested in bidding have until February 7, 2010, to make submissions to PDO.

The award date is sheduled to be in June 2010.

The third contract involves the phase three construction of a power station and the supply of the associated electrical generation units at Qarm Alam field.

Bids have to be submitted on November 11, and the contract was expected to be awarded on March 15, 2010.

Oman has spent heavily on new technology to enhance oil output from its old, depleted fields. It has already reached its target to boost total crude and oil condensate.
