His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday reviewed the preventive and curative measures the Ministry of Health (MoH) is adopting to keep the H1N1 virus at bay.

Sheikh Mohammed reviewed these measures during an inspection tour of the MoH in Dubai where he met Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health, Dr Ali bin Shuker, Director-General of MoH, Nasser Al Bedour, Executive Director of MoH, and a number of top health officials.

During the tour, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by the minister about the Health Ministry's plan to combat the H1N1 virus through major awareness campaigns and preventive and precautionary measures.

Dr Hassan said that two technical and supervisory committees were set up to implement the four-pronged national plan in the medium and long terms.

The plan is based on four components – prevention, treatment, awareness and training, he added.

According to Dr Hassan, 250 training programmes were conducted to improve capability of medical professionals to handle potential cases of infection.

On the prevention side, he affirmed that the vaccine against the virus will be administered by health clinics across the country once the product is approved by the World Health Organisation and obtained by the UAE.

"Priority of immunisation will be given to those intending to perform Umrah and Haj and students of schools and universities," he said. Sheikh Mohammed said he was satisfied with the measures taken by the health authorities to contain the spread of the virus and protect health safety of both citizens and residents.
