In a major boost to the PlayStation cult in the region, Sony Gulf organised a six-week long Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Middle East Challenge.

After regional preliminary events and over 10,000 competitors, PlayStation, in association with Nissan Middle East, announced the winner of the challenge, in which Ahmad El Azmi from Kuwait beat nine other finalists from across the Middle East at the Grand Final event hosted at Dubai Festival City during the weekend.

Ahmad secured the trip of a lifetime, with a friend, to Japan for the chance to test drive the Nissan GT-R for real after beating Salman Al Khater from Qatar in a head to head final over a simulation of the famous Suzuka circuit.

In a bumper prize, Ahmad El Azmi also walked away with his very own state-of-the-art GT Racing Pod which comes with a 40” W Bravia LCD TV, a PlayStation3 console, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue game.

Tim Stokes, Sales & Marketing Director, PlayStation Division – Sony Gulf commented, “Over the past six weeks we have witnessed some fantastic racing at the nine preliminary events across our inaugural Gran Turismo Challenge. We would like to congratulate the winner for his victory in the face of some very stiff competition from across the region.

“The excitement generated over the past six weeks and again at the Grand Final is testament to Gran Turismo’s enduring popularity.”

The first runner-up of the competition was Salman Al Khater from Qatar who won a 40” W Bravia LCD TV, a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel and a PlayStation3 console with GT5 Prologue game

Third placed Vincent Fichard, from Dubai and Samer Fanani from Abu Dhabi, each won a PlayStation3 console with GT5 Prologue game and a Logitech Driving Force GT Wheel

The Gran Turismo Challenge took place in nine regional cities across the Middle East during June and July 2008.
