The UAE's three stock markets will be closed on Thursday, which has been declared a public holiday on occasion of the Hijri New Year.

The Dubai Financial Market and the Abu Dhabi Securities Market will reopen for business on Sunday morning (January 13), according to the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (ESCA).

"ESCA's decision was prompted by the... announcement today that Thursday, January 10, 2008 is to be observed by both the public and private sectors as a national holiday," it said in a statement.

The DIFX will be closed on Thursday, a bourse official said.  It will reopen on Friday, a normal trading day for Dubai's international exchange.

The Kuwaiti stock market will close on Thursday and reopen on Sunday, the bourse said today.
