Dubai Group has partnered with Dubai Press Club (DPC) to organise a three-day intensive training programme for business/financial journalists in the UAE.

To be held from February 3 to 5 at Dubai Media City, the workshop forms part of the active and continuous support structure Dubai Group, the leading diversified financial services company of Dubai Holding, extends to DPC in its endeavour to play a pioneering role in promoting journalistic excellence in the region.

Designed to impart comprehensive training on a diverse range of business and finance topics, the workshop will provide insights towards enhancing understanding of the journalists of the current global economic conditions and ways to interpret various developments for the benefit of readers.

Randolph Walerius, a financial journalist with more than two decades of professional experience, including 10 years as senior editor at Dow Jones Newswires in London, will conduct the workshop. He has reported extensively on the foreign exchange markets in New York and London, the finance ministries and central banks of Germany and Britain, as well as the corporate sector in Europe and the United States.

News reports edited by Walerius and his team have won journalism awards in the US and Europe on subjects as diverse as reforms in Saudi Arabia, Italian corporate governance, oil industry safety issues, and the impact of European Union expansion to Eastern Europe.

The workshop will cover various aspects involved in the process of developing clear and accurate business content, equipping financial reporters with the tools needed to delve into the workings of capital markets and corporate affairs.

The systematic analysis of financial statements and balance sheets of companies, the workings of basic financial ratios used to measure the health and profitability of firms will also be explained. The regulatory role of central banks, stock markets, interest rates, as well as the evolution of financial derivatives, a relatively less understood phenomenon in the Middle East will be explored.

The workshop is in line with DPC's strategy to organise events that contribute to strengthen professionalism among the local media community by hosting renowned media experts who share new and ongoing developments globally.
