Online media comprises 9% of AJA entries

The Dubai Press Club said that nine per cent of the entries to the Arab Journalism Awards (AJA) this year were from online media.

The online media category was introduced into the award for the first time this year, following the substantial growth noted in online journalism. The entries this year represent 13 per cent increase from last year and 339 per cent from the year of the launch of the award.

More than 3,500 entries from 19 Arab nations have been nominated, with Arabic language periodicals participating from six non-Arab countries.

Maryam bin Fahad, Executive Director, Dubai Press Club, said: "This is a significant figure given online journalism was introduced into the programme for the first time."
