There are many interesting activities for residents and visitors to participate in from tomorrow.

While the Modhesh World will celebrate Hag-e-lail tomorrow, the DSS "Junk Music – Help Our Planet" workshop will also begin on the same date at the same venue.

Renowned percussionist and composer Don Knacck will teach the art of creating music from junk in an eight-day session.

The event aims to highlight the importance of recycling and how environment conservation can go a long way with a little effort from every individual.

The workshop will end on August 12 after which selected participants will perform with Don Knaack on August 13.

Open to 80 students, the workshop will take participants through a series of learning activities.

At the seminar, students will be asked to collect junk and scrap from their homes such as utensils, cardboard boxes, books, water bottles, soft-drink cans, wheels, etc. From this junk, students will be taught to make a PlayStation and thereafter taught to compose music on it.

During the workshop, students will learn the concept of the concert, how to create the instruments, how to place the instruments on to the PlayStation, and finally, how to create music.

Don Knaack has been a member of the Louisville Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic as well as a studio percussionist and drummer in the studios of Hollywood.

He now exclusively composes for and performs on junk and recycled materials.

The eight-day workshop will be held in two batches of four hours each. Each batch will include 30 to 40 students. The first batch will be held from 11am to 3pm and the second will be held from 4pm to 8pm.

Registration is free and based on first-come-first-serve basis.

Apart from the workshop, Modhesh World will wear a traditional look to celebrate Hag-e-lail, which is traditionally celebrated as the 15th day in the Islamic month of Shaaban. Celebrations will held throughout the 37,000 square foot venue at 4pm, with surprises for families and treats for children.

Visitors will be welcomed by children attired in traditional wear befitting the occasion. Tents in each of the halls will lend to the traditional ambience.

The Modhesh Theatre will host an amateur rendition by a group of young artists called Atoona Hag E laila in Arabic revolving around the importance of this event in Islamic history and the traditions that follow it. Two shows will be staged on Thursday and one on Friday. The concept, direction and performance of this play are put together by the volunteers of Modhesh World. Modhesh Friends Club members will also stage a similar show in the Mini Theatre.

All the government zones at Modhesh World will have special activities and goodies for children to mark the occasion. A mini carnival will also weave its way through to add fun to the evening.
