Month-long fiesta cheers retailers
While applications are still being processed, a spokesperson from Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, formerly known as the DSF office, expect registration numbers to double, hitting 2009’s tally of nearly 6,000 retail participants.
The festival, which runs until February 28, will offer discounts up to 75 per cent at shopping malls such as Wafi and Mall of the Emirates, with the total prize money of the DSF Lexus Mega Raffle alone accounting for Dh16 million.
Organisers said the total prize money was difficult to calculate this year considering winners had a choice from seven types of SUVs from the 32 being offered as prizes by the malls. Added to that was another 12 Nissan sedan cars.
As retailers look to DSF 2010 as an indicator of good times ahead since last year’s economic downturn, Anthony J O’Donnell, General Manager, Times Square Center, stated: “The timing of DSF 2010 could not have been better. Economies around the world, particularly in the Middle East, are currently recovering from the impact of the financial crisis. In the UAE, consumer confidence has improved steadily over the recent weeks, and we expect DSF 2010 to add further impetus to Dubai’s retail segment.”
