Business Software Alliance (BSA), a global umbrella organisation of the software industry and its hardware partners, will seek to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and creating a piracy-free environment during this Gitex Shopper.

BSA's presence at Gitex Shopper 2008 is aimed at highlighting the benefits of using original software and the influence it has on increasing productivity.

Jawad Al Redha, BSA's Co-Chairman in the Middle East, said: "Gitex Dubai, being the most eagerly-awaited IT event in the region with participation from some of the biggest IT players from around the world, serves as the perfect platform for BSA to highlight the importance of tackling piracy and creating a piracy-free environment that protects the interests of the entire software industry and fosters economic growth."

During Gitex 2008, BSA will distribute brochures and software management guides in order to raise awareness and educate the public about IPR and the UAE copyright laws, as well as about measures being taken by the UAE to protect intellectual property.

The brochures and booklets will also highlight the detrimental effects of software piracy on the global economic system and on local economies, while outlining the measures to be adopted to restrict the spread of piracy. Besides, BSA will conduct the annual BSA Online Quiz, and will give away instant prizes as well as mega prizes at the end of Gitex Shopper 2008.
