A senior official from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) stepped in while listening to a radio discussion about a possible internet domain name for the world's tallest skyscraper, the newly opened Burj Khalifa.
The presenters of the morning show on Dubai Eye said burjkhalifa.com was not available and burjkhalifa.ae could not be found.
On hearing this Mohammed Gheyath, the authority's Executive Director of Technology Development Affairs, called the live show and announced that the TRA had already earmarked burjkhalifa.ae for the iconic tower.
The domain name was immediately reserved following Monday's announcement that the building – formerly known as the Burj Dubai – was to be renamed in honour of the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
