The Ministerial Council for Services passed yesterday a proposal put forward by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on the UAE domain in Arabic (Emarat) on the internet.

The proposal is part of the TRA's strategy to chalk out a national plan for running and managing the internet in Arabic language.

It falls in line with the new approach by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to create equivalent domains in languages other than English.

The UAE domain in English is ae. The domain in Arabic will contribute to increasing the number of surfers to Arabic sites and further promote and strengthen the UAE's identity.

The meeting was presided over by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister for Presidential Affairs.
