Ford Motor Company will be participating for the first time in Gitex where it will launch its in-car communications and entertainment system called Sync.

Waldo Galan, Managing Director of Ford Middle East, said: "Sync uses software that bridges the automotive and consumer electronics industries, so having it debut at Gitex seemed like a natural fit. We are confident that with the visibility that Gitex enjoys in the region, it will serve as the perfect platform to highlight Ford's innovation together with Microsoft."

A Ford-exclusive technology based on Microsoft Auto software, Sync integrates a vehicle with popular portable electronic devices and is upgradeable to support future devices and services, Galan said. It will enable customers to use mobile phones, control SMS and the choice of music in their vehicles.

"Sync is what today's drivers demand in connectivity," Galan said. "It offers hands-free phone operation and Apple iPod, Microsoft Zune or MP3 player connectivity. It's built on a software platform that is upgradeable and will allow us to offer new features by upgrading the software."

Vimal Sethi, Developer and Platform Group Director, Microsoft Gulf, said: "Customers today demand the ability to stay connected with all of their information and entertainment sources while travelling in their cars. Microsoft, partnering with automobile manufacturers such as Ford, provides solutions that redefine a consumer's driving experience. With Sync, Microsoft and Ford aim to keep consumers connected, even when they are behind the wheel."
