Toyota is repairing nearly one million vehicles in the US and Japan for potentially leaky oil hoses – the latest in a spate of quality problems battering the world's biggest automaker.

Toyota says a fix for a rubber part of an oil-supply hose is being expanded to the 2007 to 2009 model year RAV4 sport utility vehicles and some Avalon sedan models. The problem now affects about 934,000 vehicles in the US.

Toyota said yesterday the problem also affects about 40,000 vehicles in Japan, spanning five models sold there. Toyota says the fix is not considered a recall in Japan, but is categorised as a "service campaign", with owners receiving notices through dealers on the needed repair.
