The first Westin hotel in the region will open in Dubai on May 11. The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi is sister property of Le Meridien Mina Seyahi. Westin is part of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts group, which has 900 properties in more than 100 countries around the world.

"Dubai is the strongest market for hotels and resorts in the Middle East and there is a lot of enthusiasm and untapped potential in this region," Kip Horton, vice-president of sales for Europe, Africa and the Middle East told Emirates Business.

"We are not only concentrating on the leisure sector but also on the the corporate area. As more companies set up base in the region, there will be more demand for hotel services by executives, managers, CEOs and directors. And this is where we come in."

Saeed Mohamed Ahmad Hareb, Managing Director of Dubai International Marine Club, which is based at Mina Seyahi, said: "The two properties, along with the club, represent a special hospitality offering in the emirate.

"Guests will benefit from our key beachfront location, extended landscaped gardens and wide range of facilities, including our fleet of yachts and sailing vessels."

The property will have 294 rooms, including 52 Westin executive rooms, 24 suites and 216 deluxe rooms, a health club, spa, four themed restaurants and four lounges.

Conference and banqueting facilities will include an 8,999 square foot ballroom, an Italian designed conference centre with seven meeting rooms, an outdoor beachside amphitheatre and lawns for up to 5,000 guests.

The Westin is located on a 1,200 metres private shoreline and will feature a 238-berth marina, five swimming pools, a water sports centre, and a sailing academy.
