ID card will help promote e-governance

The successful introduction of the national identity card programme will play a vital role in the UAE's social, economic and infrastructure development, says Interior Minister Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He called for an early implementation of the programme to help achieve full e-governance, with all government transactions being carried out electronically.

The interior minister made the call yesterday at the opening of the two-day Citizen ID Forum organised by the ID World International Congress in Abu Dhabi.

The speech was delivered by Darwish Ahmed Al Zarouni, Director-General of the Emirates Identity Authority.

The event was attended by leading regional and international IT experts.
