The National Media Council (NMC) signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Academy of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority and Thomson Reuters Foundation to boost the strategic partnership relations among them.

The MoU also aims to coordinate work among the four authorities to provide services with regard to training of UAE nationals in media.

Labour Minister and NMC Chairman Saqr Ghobash said: "This MoU comes within the framework of NMC emiratisation drive to train interested UAE nationals to work in the media institutions in the country." He said the agreement included a specified programme to train at least 15 students annually.

Mohammed Rashid Al Hamili, Board Chairman of Emirates Academy, said the move would pave the way for co-operation among parties to provide training programmes in media, and holding of symposia, conferences, seminars and workshops. The Council will coordinate with media institutions in journalistic training programmes with pledges to employ a number of those trained.

The MoU was signed by Al Hamili; Ibrahim Al Abed, Director-General of NMC; Wayne Borg, CEO, twofour54 Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority, and Jo Weir, Programme Director, Thomson Reuters Foundation.
