Thief flees – into police station!
It comes down to sheer stupidity or unusually bad luck. Police say a man suspected of stealing a bottle of Schnapps from a grocery store in the American town of Riverton, Wyoming, didn't have the best escape route planned.
Riverton police say the 26-year-old ran out of the store after grabbing the bottle of booze and a package of cough drops last week and hid in a nearby building, which, to his bad luck, happened to be the town's police station. Police say the man then ran out of the police station. However, a dispatcher had already spied him on the station's surveillance camera and proceeded to alert officers.
The man, who police say was drunk, was caught soon after. He was taken into custody on preliminary charges of resisting arrest and shoplifting.
However, he fared better than 40-year-old Manchester resident John Ankers who last year tried to steal computers from a police station – and was caught red handed by officers.
