US aid to Pakistan, Yemen set to increase

Pakistan and Yemen would get more US aid under President Barack Obama's proposed budget, while Iraq would get less and Afghanistan's funding would largely hold steady, according to US government figures released on Monday.

Following are the amounts the State Department and Agency for International Development plan to spend on the four nations in fiscal 2011, which begins on October 1.

 The figures include aid as well as the cost of running US embassies and other civilian operations in the countries.

Afghanistan

 $4.96 billion     $5.32 billion

 

Pakistan

FY 2011           FY 2010 (includes supplemental request)

$3.16 billion     $1.82 billion

 

Iraq

FY 2011           FY 2010 (includes supplemental request)

$2.54 billion     $4.21 billion

 

Yemen

$106.6 million    $67.3 million
