Beijing Zoo panda in third attack
Officials at the Beijing Zoo say that for the third time, Gu Gu, a male panda, has attacked someone who jumped into his pen.
A zoo spokeswoman surnamed Gong said the latest attack came on Wednesday when a man jumped over a 4-foot, 7-inch barrier to retrieve a toy his 5-year-old son had dropped.
Gong, who would not give her full name as is common among Chinese officials, said the tourist from Anhui province provoked Gu Gu, who bit the man in both legs.
In 2007, Gu Gu bit a drunken tourist who jumped into his pen. In October, Gu Gu viciously bit a teenager who climbed into his exercise area out of curiosity.
The Beijing News said Zhang is recovering from surgery after the attack left significant lacerations and damage to major ligaments in his legs.
